2021 Exhibition
Bewildered World
Highlight of the Month - Angel Hui Hoi Kiu
2021.02.02 - 2021.03.10
Many of us have fallen into a state of bewilderment witnessing the almost-apocalyptic events of 2020. With the challenges of social distancing and covid-19 restrictions disrupting our daily routines, will we be able to persevere and emerge unchanged at the end of this?
In this exhibition “Bewildered World”, the emerging contemporary artist Angel Hui Hoi Kiu makes her new breakthrough by using the signature blue-and-white ink art designs characteristic of the Qing Dynasty. Her style has extended from painting porcelain motifs onto tissue papers and “My Little Hong Kong -Bewilderment” series, and now even includes LED art “Thousand Hands”. Angel’s art is inspired by traditional Chinese culture, contemporary art and daily objects. An expert in the meticulous detailed brushstrokes technique, she suggests an innovative and current way of reinterpreting the traditional Chinese style and art form, generating new meaning from within. A series of work by Angel is full of humour and joy, expressing her wish for the audience to overcome the changes and difficulties we are facing now with a positive attitude, as well as to bring hope to everyone in 2021.
Angel Hui Hoi Kiu received her BA (Hons) in Visual Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014 and the Master of Arts programme in Experimental Art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in 2017. She has participated in more than twenty exhibitions and attained numerous art awards including Excellence Award and Silver Award of Art Next Expo International Artists Award in 2019 and 2015 respectively. Currently based in Hong Kong, she has set up her own art studio in JCCAC (Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre).
