Artist / Ping-Shun Chan

Ping-Shun Chan was born and raised in Hong Kong. Throughout his teenage years and twenties, he resided primarily in the United States for his high school, undergraduate, then post-graduate education, earning a Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2005. Prior to 2009, his art training consisted mainly of art classes given at Columbia University and the Ohio State University. During 2006-2007, he lived for a year in Germany as a visiting mathematics researcher. The extensive museum visits he made there and in other European countries (France, Austria, the Netherlands) further enriched his exposure to art.
In 2009, having decided to undertake a more thorough and traditional training in visual art, Chan enrolled at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, Canada. In 2011, Chan returned to Hong Kong, and has been working as a university math lecturer and an oil painter ever since.
