Artist / CY Wang

CY WANG

Born in Taipei and now based in Hong Kong and Taipei, artist CY showcases his artistic talent from a very young age. From photography to installation and painting, each domain reveals his fascinating imagination and unique aesthetics.

As a “MANGA” generator, his diverse body of work embodies an intersection of pop culture, history, and fine art. It explores the relationship between the new generation, the Internet, video games, and social media, delving into the cultural and social perspectives of youth. CY first gained recognition through Takashi Murakami's GEISAI Taiwan in 2009, where he received the Seiichi Kamei Personal Award, followed by a golden prize at GEISAI Taiwan 2010.

His art is influenced by childhood memories, including cartoons, video games, and TV shows. In recent years, his paintings have demonstrated impressive skill, with the combination of diverse characters standing out. His inspiration has always stemmed from his life, imagination, and the things that are important to him.

During the pandemic, his daughter was born, and family time with two children inspired a new series titled “Rainbow.” This series features two main characters, Haha and Hoho, who originate from a Rainbow planet. They land on Earth to explore, grow, love, and share. CY begins a new storyline with these charming “aliens.” As the old saying goes, the eyes are the windows to the soul; through these “rainbow eyes,” he connects hope and the future, evoking the depth of the starry sky and leading to the vast, amazing cosmos.

This series delivers a powerful visual impact to the audience. The vivid, colorful rainbows radiate bright energy that uplifts people. The scenarios are wonderfully simple yet joyful, resonating with contemporary life, childhood, and memories. Audiences can find a familiar sensation alongside fresh inspiration. This new series has garnered worldwide acclaim and collection.
